Q3 - Tire Pressure on 19"

Hi All,

I am looking for your collective wisdom on tire pressure. The plate on the B Pillar says 44 psi front and 46 psi rear. In the manual it indicates that a Normal load (up to 3 people) is 33 front & rear and that a Full Load should have the 44/46 combo. I have always followed the plate on the B Pillar in the past as it was always the same in the manual. I will nearly always be at or under the Normal load. Should I run it at 33 front & rear? This is a HUGE difference from 44/46. Also, the MAX psi on the sidewall is 51 - I am worried that running it at the 44/46 could cause it to get near the max psi when hot or running long distances. What say you?

Thanks! John

Normal (i.e. lower) pressures give you a more softer and comfortable ride. Higher pressures reduce rolling resistance and can give you better mileage. They also give you higher resistance to heat build-up hence performance. I would NOT worry at all running the tires up to their max. They actually will get higher as they heat up too, but the max rating COLD takes this into account. Many high performance situations (track, auto-cross - NOT typical street driving) will start with raising the pressures even a few more pounds than recommended - even if above the max.

Thanks Roger. My wife's Q3 is at 44/46 and mine is 44/44. At these pressures the ride is still VERY smooth, much more than I thought for a 19" wheel. If the life expetancy is not shortened significantly running at 44 psi I plan to keep it there.
