Now that the engine has been spec'd anyone have ideas on why/how Audi came to this version? Seems it's at least a generation or two or even 3 (I suspect a K03 turbo ca. 2007) behind to me.

I suppose it was based on cost - trying to get the base price down, far enough away from the Q5. Btw, if I built my car in Germany (via Audi.de) with otherwise normal (2.0 TFSI 211 PS, S-tronic) and then similar options, my $42K car here would cost 52K€, or about $60K+

Still would like to have the latest TFSI and DSG though...

The engine is supposed to be underrated a bit -- it dynos at more like 220hp in the older A3.
I agree - the TT feels stronger than 211, so I am hopeful the Q3 will too - then there's always a tune >:D
Just found out from Audi Tech Intro for the Q3, the Tiptronic IS just for us, as apparently Audi feels that Americans are not 'sporty' enough for the DSG  or that WE (who??) think the DSG is too rough - WTF?

Got to love tunes. plus german cars seem to have tons of locked power that tunes act as the magic key to unlock.
