Having been part of another thread on this forum where someone inquired about ongoing maintenance requirements, I decided to create this post as an open maintenance log similar to my post on the Mercedes Benz forums about owning my wagon ("Missy: A 2004 E320 4Matic Wagon Owner's Odyssey"). I purchased our 2016 Audi Q3 Premium Plus (Blue Metallic/Brown) in May 2020. It was CPO with 40,080 miles from Autohaus in Lancaster, PA, and I hired a professional car buyer (Tom McParland, if anyone follows his column at Jalopnik) to negotiate the purchase after I found the listing on cars.com. The car was purchased as a backup to my older wagon, and to be a primary for my wife once she obtained her driver's license. Thus it had to meet my standards for being an essential worker in Central NY (decent power/torque/handling/AWD), and my wife's demands (cute; not a boring color). On our first drive back from Lancaster, my wife named her Bessie, hence the title of this thread.

As one would expect, it hasn't required too much work, but there have been a few niggles. The first time I went to mount winter tires on her, I discovered that she had wheel locks that required me to take a side trip to the Audi dealership to have them replaced with regular lugs before we could mount them. Shortly thereafter, I found myself pumping gas in an ice storm while I was running late for work, and discovered that the fuel door was frozen shut, so, naturally, I broke it open instead of taking the time to read the manual and find out about the handy interior release; this self-inflicted wound was duly repaired. Some wear items have had to be replaced (brake rotors/pads, and the starter battery), but, other than those, it's all been oil changes/inspections/tire changeovers. Hopefully, that streak continues. Here's everything that has been done so far:

06/30/2021: 40,516 miles, Pierce Auto, Bouckville, NY.
  • New York State Inspection
10/27/2021: 43,150 miles, Audi Cicero, Cicero, NY.
  • Replace wheel locks with regular lugs.

If it's a quattro, the oil in the rear differential (Haldex) is due for a change. Have you changed the engine air filter and cleaned out the airbox? Flush/replace the brake fluid as well.
Yep, it's a quattro. What I've written is all that I've done. She's due for an oil change and inspection next month, so I'll mention your suggestions to my mechanic. Thanks.

This is the damnedest thing. I was driving my other car ("Missy", my beloved 2004 Mercedes E320 wagon with the ownership experience detailed here: Missy: A 2004 E320 4Matic Wagon Owner's Odyssey) when a deer kamikazied us (I was fine, but Missy and Bambi are kaput). After completing the report, the rookie trooper was nice enough to give me a lift home to retrieve Bessie, so I could continue on my way to work. I shook my head at the road debris I had gathered up and placed in the median earlier, as I drove past the accident scene. When I arrived at work, a coworker pointed out that Bessie's rear driver's side tire was hissing and rapidly deflating. I looked and saw a piece of some sort of metal had punctured the tire and was embedded pretty much right on the crease between the tread and the sidewall. Long story short, when I eventually got that tire off I discovered that the three point star from my very own hood ornament (the one I had been searching for when I gathered up debris by walking up and down the highway with a flashlight a couple of hours earlier) had impaled itself into Bessie. Good thing that deer died, or it would've come after my family, too.

Bessie was due for new tires, but I was going to get them in the Spring when I removed my snows, but I instead had to buy a new set of Continentals just a week before I was due to mount my winter tires. Thanks, Bambi. Other than that, it's all been quite uneventful. :)
