500 Miles / 19 Days In...My Favorite Things About My Q3 So Far

I just love this car SO much! I'm finding myself trying to think of somewhere to go so I can drive her again. I've now added a radar detector...you know, just in case. ;)

I actually enjoy hand washing my car now. Although I realized over the weekend I need to get a telescoping spongy thing - I'm 5'10" but can't reach the whole roof. As I was washing and drying, it was very apparent that this vehicle is built with the good stuff. Quality everywhere, even in the tiniest little nooks. Rock solid. LOVE. :x

My favorite things so far about my Q:
- The steering wheel. Whatever that material is that they used, I LOVE it! It's so soft and comfy...I've never had a steering wheel like that before. AND it's so pretty. Love the Audi logo, and the silver accents. Dreamy.
- The shift knob. So pretty how they put the aluminum inlay surround there. It's fun to shift and pretty to look at.
- The dash. The controls are pretty, with the silver accents and design. SO glad Audi likes silver...my (former) Mazda had nothing but BLACK, and to make matters worse...RED accents. Bleh.
- Aluminum inlays...on the dash (accented with "Quattro" - nice touch!), on the doors...really soft and pretty.
- I've said it before, but the ambient lighting is FABULOUS. Around the speakers, in the cup holders, on the floor, in the doors...SWEET!
- The Bose stereo system. Heavenly. Can't say enough about it. Rich, full sound. Nicely done.

Glad to hear that you're enjoying your new ride! Random driving trips on the weekends is a great way to explore the more rural areas and you get to drive your car! If it snows in your area in the winter, might I suggest your get a long snow brush too? I'm usually stuck with a snow mohawk every winter.

Ohhhhhh, if only I had the time for random weekend trips! Right now, my teenagers keep me hopping....but one day I'll have more time. (And I"m definitely NOT wishing my kids away, I adore them.)
And about the snow, I've never had a 4-wheel drive before, so I hope it snows a TON!! Within a couple of years I'll hopefully be relocating to the east coast where it snows like crazy. And happily, I have a garage at both home and work. :D

Oh yeah, like how I actually PAID MONEY to join the Audi North America group! Not sure what that'll get me, but they sent me a cute little card!

As we have not yet received our Q3 (it was unloaded from the ship in Houston this morning) I am curious to hear what you think of the MMI screen's inability to be retracted.

Does it seem odd the screen doesn't retract, or are you perfectly comfortable with it being in the "upright and locked" position?

My wife will be the primary operator of our Q3 (also coming from a Mazda), and I suspect she won't be bothered by the screen....

Oh, and although it's been panned by a many on this forum, she chose the wood inlay over the silver for her silver Q3 with the black interior. It's a choice I too would have made just for a little change to the "Oakland Raiders" interior color.

Who said it doesn't retract or fold down.

A number of us here made it so.

I for one prefer it to be like this, mine is with driver assist so as soon as I sit and put it in reverse I get the camera on screen. I do not want to wait for screen to come up first.

You make a good point, but of course those who must manually raise the screen will probably say they just open it when they get on board and close it when they arrive at their destination.

When I test drove the Lexus NX recently, it too has a screen that does not retract...and I had no problem with the appearance or functionality of the fixed screen with instant camera views.
My screen remains folded almost 95% of the time - I learned to back up without a camera, so that's not a necessity for me or my wife. I like the clean look of the dash and when I want or need the screen, just a quick push on it and within 1-2 seconds it's up and ready ... to each their own is fine with me -

Depending on WHAT you do with your membership will determine your benefits. You can do nothing and have a nice little card and Quattro quarterly to thumb through, or you can attend driving events, tech sessions at your dealer to learn about your car and other Audis, a 6% discount off your next Audi as well as another $500-2K loyalty discount, attend Audi Motorsport Experience events at a discount that is worth more than your membership cost, attend social events like picnics, BBQs etc where you can simply get together with other Audi fans and chat, learn etc. just like you do here but in person, develop new friendships - etc.
...and often obtain a discount on parts at your local dealership too - which can easily pay for your membership or more - just depends on what you want to do -

Yes, a folding screen would have been nice. My 2014 Mazda 3 had the same thing awkwardly sticking up in the middle of the dash. It really annoyed me at first, but particularly since this is now my second vehicle with it, I'm getting used to it. I still think it looks weird, especially when the car is off and not running. Doesn't make sense to me why car manufacturers would make it foldable in one location and not another - huh?! In fact, is a screen like that on the dash even legal in NYC? I think not!! It also makes the dash and windshield difficult to reach and clean.

With that said, I have to admit that the Audi screen and graphics are pretty blah next to the Mazda screen. I CAN'T BELIEVE I JUST SAID THAT!! The screen in my (former) Mazda included album cover pictures with each song that played, which I really liked. And the colors were nicer, more diverse, and generally nicer looking.

So all in all, I'm kind of disappointed in the Audi stagnant screen. But with all the other goodies and perks on the inside of my Q, I'm okay with it. It serves as a good block for my radar detector so I don't have to look at it or see the flashing light.

I'm still figuring out what the heck all the functionability is with the Audi MMI. I know there are some things I haven't even discovered yet. :|

Whaaaaaa?? Roger, isn't your Q American (so to speak)? How did you get a folding screen??

Ooooooooh! Do all dealerships participate in that? I'd like to learn stuff...and I like hanging out at my dealership; it's beautiful! Do they notify members about that sort of thing?

Yes I have an NAR Q3 - but I am also the pioneer of retro-fitting the RoW folding version of the MMI screen into these cars. You can start here for the whole drooly thing - or just go here to see the install ...

I think yeah, its much about the way one drives; I wouldn't have minded the foldable screen but most probably keep it open majority of time. :)

I agree, its personal preference. Its good to have an option though.

My last car did not come with camera; so past many years I always used to reverse without camera. I am now trying to indulge in these features. :)
