OK-

I have been reading about a lot of MMI modifications. I did not order the Driver Assist package as I did not feel I needed it but a back up camera might make things easier. So...

Does anyone know where the factory installed camera is located? Also, does anyone know if the wiring harness is in place up to the dash and perhaps hooked up to the MMI as well?

Thanks!

The camera is just above the license plate frame on a piece between the license plate lights. I imagine the wiring is already there, but will require some coding (not hard I think)...

Parts required...
8U0907441 - Camera Control Unit
5N0827566AA - Camera
8U0035209 - Control Unit Mounting Bracket
Kufatec Wiring Loom http://www.kufatec.de/shop/en/Audi/Q3/Q3-8U/APS-Advanced-Rear-View-Camera-Harness-Audi-Q3

I know this because I have the parts here to be fitted on Friday :)

It will need coding too.

About 2hrs work I believe.

Parts cost me about €200

In the pic above:
1 & 2 - Go into the MMI Quadlock
3 is earth (trunk)
6 is power (anywhere with a ignition switched live, fuse box or towbar wiring perhaps)
4&5 - Go into the CAN (trunk)

Kufatec supply a PDF install guide with their cable harness.

Thanks CoCoPops. This is great for cars already equipped with Nav. The Kufatec harness requires that the car be equipped with Nav. For those of us without, another solution appears necessary. Perhaps one of the aftermarket head units noted in a previous thread...

You have a nav capable car right?
If you added the SD card?

Or do you not have the screen at all?

Yes, have a screen that displays radio stations, various menus. My comment was based on their product information that states the cable will only work on Nav equipped cars.

Or is something being lost in the interpretation ?

I just wonder if it's easy to narrow it down for a German site to simply say "nav" rather than get into specifics?

How was your sold? RMC? MMI?

Got a pic?

For whatever reason, Audi has not been providing (to my knowledge) an SD based nav solution for cars in the US like they do in the UK (and, if it's like everything else they do, the rest of the world). This is probably where the confusion is stemming...

This is interesting. From reading the Audi information, MMI Nav might just refer to the screen and function control from it and not necessarily the "GPS" option.

CocoPops, I was unable to download that pdf for the wiring harness. It required purchase information.

I know adding the camera required some coding but did wiring needed to be snaked up to the dashboard unit from the rear? Or, was all wiring done at the tailgate?

Thanks!!

I have a Premium Plus model with a power lift gate. It has one real SD slot and one fake one.
Perhaps the confusion is due to the difference between ROW and NA equipped cars. This would be a nice add on if it is compatible with our NA cars because the back up camera is otherwise only available as part of a $2,000 package from Audi.

The confusion over the NAV screen night be due to in Germany (and Europe except UK) the car is available with just a basic radio and no screen, might that be the one that the site is saying its not compatible with?

As to the slots, is that correct that you have one dummy SD slot? Seems a bit drastic to take away a silly little extra SD slot just because you do not get an SD NAV option, seems more trouble than its worth to Audi!

Is the fake one labeled SD 2 or just blank - I have two that are labeled but haven't tried to mount anything ...
