Don't know where to post this since it doesn't seem to fall under any of the categories...

Put on the A/C yesterday and I noticed there's a difference if you have it on "auto" verses having all three buttons pushed (the ones where you can tell it which vents to come out of)

If I have it on auto I definitely feel the air coming out of the vents in front of me. If I have all the other buttons pushed there's barely any air coming out of them. Anyone know the difference between telling it which vents to push the heat or A/C out of or using the "auto" feature?

My BMW was never this complicated to figure out :)

Auto will regulate the cabin temperature to whatever you've set either for the whole car or each zone. It will determine fan speed, recirculation, etc based on what's needed. In colder months, you can turn AC on or off depending on humidity conditions after selecting Auto.

The other option (pressing the directional flow buttons) will be dependent on your fan speed and temperature settings - so no automatic functionality.

When you direct the air into three level. The total air flow gets divided in 3 routes instead of just 1. This means you are getting the same amount of air, only 1/3 will come out of each outlet. Since it is only 1/3 of air coming thru each vent, it will feel slower.

When you are using the AUTO setting, it is probably directing all of the air to the upper vents. This is probably the reason it fella like a lot more of air flowing

Or, it will distribute ITSELF to whichever (or a combination) of the 3 zones that best gets to the overall temperature you've selected. You can't have Auto some things (like temp, direction or fan speed) and then manually select the others - so you can't have Auto temp, and select either fan speed or direction, or Auto fan speed and you select temp or direction, or Auto direction and you select temp or fan speed - it's either Auto by temp, or manual whichever else you want. Temp is the ONLY Auto selection btw that makes sense for an Auto mode.

Just like defrost/defog (front) ALWAYS goes max to the windscreen and sides, and also turns on the A/C to dehumidify which accounts for inside fogging. In defrost/defog mode though, you CAN adjust temp to get warm dehumidified air (with A/C on), which is efficient for frost and inside fog...
