Audi will discontinue the production of its multitronic CVT transmission. It won't be offered on Audi's next-gen models.
Audi's senior driving behavior engineer Ralph Riegger said development of the multitronic CVT has ended and it will not be offered on next generation models. A large part of the reason for that could be the class action lawsuit involving 2002-2006MY A4 and A6 models which was settled in 2013. The CVT will be available in the A5 and the A7, but their successors won't get it.
The transmission that will be used in the future is a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) and it is believed the first model of this kind will be the all-new A4, which is set to go on sale in the first half of 2015.
