On the removable boot cover shelf like thingy. If you look underneath, dead center, you see a hook that you can pull towards you. It will protrude past the edge when pulled.

Any idea what's its purpose. I do not think it's for a grocery bag.
The shelf would sag too much to be efficient.

Is this the piece you are looking at?
Doug,
That looks like the hand hold on a cargo cover that retracts like a window shade.
Do you have a retracting cargo cover?
If so that is another rolling change in addition to the Homelink. Maybe a retracting screen will be next.

Mine retracts but is not the same. No hook.
I believe you are right, it's part of the rolling port change that also added the home link (that I did not get).

Nope. It's this one:

The hook you pull under the cover to protrude.
I have an early car (Oct build) and I have this hook, but have no idea what it's for... Yikes, I may panic over this lack of knowledge - but not for long...

I just took delivery on Tuesday. Not sure how I missed the Homelink change, but my opener clips into the door pocket just fine.

I took possession of my car on Sep 19. Built in June.
Probably 1st NA production rollout.
I feel cheated on improvements/upgrades that have been done since.

No worries, I still LOVE my Q3!!!!!!!
It certainly gets double looks.

We took delivery in January and have the hook too. My guess would be that its to help stabilize bags rather than suspend them... Maybe a bag of clothes or something like that, just to hold them in place rather than them sliding around. I dont really know but it sounds reasonable to me.

I have a September build and the hook is there. I believe you pull out the hook and place the handles of a plastic grocery bag over the hook holding it downwards with one hand while you push the hook back forward capturing the bag and it suspends the bag while the weight is taken by the floor.
