Hi everyone! I deciding on pulling the trigger on the 2016 q3. We can get a decent price - brand new at 34k. This would be the premium plus model with technology package. My biggest concern is fitting the car seat for our newborn in and a stroller in back. We're moving back from Europe so we are used to small cars. Wondering your thoughts?

First, welcome to the forum - glad you're here and found us - IMHO, you have a pretty good deal and I think you'll have no issues with the child seat. So jump in and enjoy and come back often ...

Thanks for your insight! This was through a car buying service for overseas service members and we wanted to make sure we weren't jumping into anything that was overpriced (car buying service says its factory direct pricing - deeply discounted - nonnegotiable) and impractical. We were looking at the Q5 too, but it seems big and the base models didn't provide the same options as the Q3. Do you think its good for short road trips too (less than 6hrs)? Thanks for everyone's assistance!

PS - Which color looks sharpest - cortina white, monsoon gray, or mythos metallic black

elle - please see this video review to see if the car seat works for you.
By American standards this SUV is a compact & may not work for a growing family & their supplies.

That said, my wife & I have made it work in a very 'euro' way for our new child.
As for road trips, we drove 5 hours before when we went to PA to pick our Q3 up & it is a joy to drive on the hwy.
No drifting or shifting - just point & stick on the hwys.

Hope it works - would love to see u in the Q3 fraternity.

I'd take both drives - there is really no way to better understand the cars than to take a significant drive - include stops, traffic, nice roads, rough roads - the kind of stuff you will do with the cars. In the end 5 hours is not even enough - if you have a kind dealer, they could let you take one of each for a weekend - NOT to put on 1000 miles, but really to live a little with the car - this is no minor investment. All that said, we tried to buy a Q5 twice, but after declining the second one - the Q5 is just too big for our needs and use - we WAITED almost 3 years for the Q3 - and LOVE it!!

btw, of the above colors, and everybody has an opinion on this - I like Monsoon with Black or Chestnut (my fav) ...

Elle, first of all thank you to your entire family for serving our country....all family members serve and sacrifice while having the privilege and responsibility of providing safety for the rest of us to live our lives as we wish.

As you are coming from Europe, you will find the Q3 is exactly what you want. Sure, later when you've got more than one baby seat and stroller, you might want to go bigger, but the Q3 is just the right size with all the right safety features for a "baby on board."

The Q5, while nice, is boring! The Q3 is fun to drive and feels luxurious beyond its price tag.

Color? Well, we have Florett Silver because we older folks are supposed to drive cars that are more easily seen by others on the road and because it just doesn't show the dirt and grime that comes with winter weather. But, I like the look of Monsoon Gray.

Keep us updated on what you decide. Oh, and where will your next assignment take you?

Elle, I would agree with the comments - best to try both Q3 and Q5 with the car seat if you can. I would note that in the 8 months we've had the car my wife and I have gone on two road trips with our Q3 that have run close to 8 hours of driving each way on each trip. On both trips, with just a few short stops to get gas and eat lunch, we felt very comfortable, even with the less supple sports seats - and we're both in our 60s. It's a fun car to drive and enjoyable to ride in. Color is so subjective. I have Mythos Black + Chestnut and it's very pretty and I have gotten a number of glowing comments from people. But with black you work a lot more to keep it clean - so good to consider weather and environment in your area. All three of those exterior colors are going to be great. Regardless of which of those 3 colors you get on the exterior I would recommend the Chestnut interior - it's really rich looking.
