Hi All,

For the last month or so we have noticed that the FOB is not recognized when trying to start the car. Once this happens we simply lock unlock the doors via the FOB after which it is recognized and able to start the car. This occurs with both FOBs.

Have any of you seen this?

We have a 2016 Q3.

Thanks,
Bob

Yes, Ive had the same issue from time to time. There seems to be something going on with the interaction between the FOB and the self-locking. I havent figured it out. I notice that the car will selflock via the proximity switch on the door after I have unlocked it using the FOB, and this can happen just at the point when I have opened the door. So I sit down and notice the red LED on the door is on, and I know the car has locked itself.

Yes this was happening to me all the time until I realized what I was doing wrong. If you accidentally hit the lock button on the door handle while grasping the door handle to unlock the door it apparently sends a conflicting message to the computer and the car won't start as a result. I found if I just got out of the car, shut the door, and locked it using the door handle button and then open it again the proper way (avoiding the lock button) then the car will start. Note that I don't usually use the FOB to open the doors but apparently something similar can happen if you do. Your solution apparently also works if you can figure out which pocket your FOB is in! Ha!

Just to close the loop on this and for completeness, the Q3 when into the garage for scheduled maintenance and when I described the problem to them they indicated there was a TSB that would resolve this issue, basically, they did a software update and moved the antenna in the center console. Time will tell if the issue occurs again.

Do you happen to have the exact wording on the dealers record sheet (like any reference to TSB #, or any thing that can guide?). I have the same problem for last 2 years. Already took the car to two different dealership and they said " all working fine and nothing we can do". Obviously they don't know the nature of a randomly happening issue, so if they can't reproduce the issue, they can't do anything about it .
