Genuine roof bars v Thule/whispbar for black roof rails

6501 Views 9 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Quatto
Hi All,

I have a Q3 with black roof rails.

I would like to purchase the Whispbar roof bars or perhaps the Thule wing bars.

I am concerned that the Thule or Whispbar roof bars will mark the black roof rails.

Will the Audi ones also fit better as they will utilise the fitting holes on the rails?

Does anyone have any experience on the above?

Cheers

Welcome to the forum.

Have you seen these bars to see how they sit once mounted? Ultimately that'd be the best way to judge whether this be an issue or not.
I use the Thule Aeroblade Edge bars, picture URL below, any contact with the bars is protected by thick rubber, and the only metal part is the clamping mechanism which is also covered in a rubber coating. Whether that will effect the black, I don't know, I have the silver rails and they leave no marks.

Knew they would have some sort of protection in place otherwise it would render the product useless and actually being a disaster for the owner.
Thanks all. I quite like the look of the black aero bars that Thule do. :)

That's what I like about Thule, even on Audi's they look great complement our vehicles, don't stand out like a sore thumb, looking like something cheap.
A couple pics of the Thule Aeroblade Edge mounted and installed with my bike carrier.

Nice!

Setup looks great.

Been meaning to get into bikes for a while now. So far been looking at Norco, how good is Norco compared to the brand of bike you have on your Q3?
My Scattante is just a 3 year old private label from Performance Bicycle, aluminum frame with a carbon fork, so if you're looking for the latest cutting edge performance parts and the best engineering then look elsewhere. I bought the Scattante brand because I do more biking through a city with lots of rough roads than I do long smooth routes, so it doesn't get the very best treatment it should, but it's a good price/performance ratio and great customer service/ maintenance packages from Performance. I'd put it,comparing components, just below the new Norco Valence Alu A3 if you're looking at Norco's. I don't have much experience with other road bikes, but when the Scattante is tuned correctly and the terrain is decent then it's a really good bike to ride, not tip-top of the line, but very good.
Good to know.

Been seeing some used Norco's, surprisingly there's always those folks that buy them, hardly ride them around and want to look for a quick sale :D
