I happened to notice today that ion the middle of my 2016 Q3 rear hatch, there is a long narrow rectangular compartment with a latch. When I open it, its obvious it was made for something in particular and there is a round clip that would hold something, maybe flashlight size?

Do you have something in there or know what it was intended for? Could not find it in the Owner's Manual.

I do believe it is for a flashlight, on the European model.

Doesn't look like the clips would hold a folding triangle. More of a round object like a flashlight. But maybe.

I put an extra umbrella in there. Flashlight is a good idea too, but both of those items seem to be better suited to be stored closer to the driver for ease of access once they are needed. Look forward to hearing others ideas.

It IS for the folding triangle - a safety device required by the German TuV - you can buy one from your dealer if you like - it's about $20
