Hello all! My 2020 Q3 has a leaking moonroof and it’s pouring into the light/moonroof control panel and causing it to rain heavily in my car.
Going in for my second repair attempt at the dealership. Any idea if this is a fixable problem or does anyone have any experience with Audi buying back their vehicle?
I was completely drenched and my interior will probably need to be replaced if this persists.
Thank you!

California South Bay area resident here (San Jose area) - Audi Fremont CA Experience

My 2019 Audi Q3 with 57,000 miles on it started leaking due to the rain storm we got. Took it in early January and picked it up yesterday... 1 month later. They removed and replaced the deflector and modified the track for the sunroof. Total cost was $2,178! Prior to the repair, The dealer told me to call Audi USA to get assistance because the dealership "never" assists with these claims for "goodwill" as there is no recall in place (which is absurd because this is a manufactured defect). In parallel, I had the car worked on assuming that I could call Audi USA to gain some sort of financial assistance. I called Audi USA and they stated "we never assist with goodwill. All discounts are taken at the dealership level". I returned yesterday to pick up the car and met with the manager. I mentioned that Audi USA mentioned that any sort of discount is always taken place at the dealership level when outside of warranty. His reply was "yes, that's correct". Audi Fremont staged my agreement for an extremely expensive repair which was not a fault of my own by allowing me to think that Audi USA might have been able to help, but that was a dead end and they knew it. Upon 15 minutes of back and forth with the manager, he gave me 20% off the work done, but only due to the fact that I recognized they were being shady. Had I not been sent down the Audi USA path, I doubt they would have given me any discount. They had 3 other Q3's which were being worked on due to the same water leak location while mine was there! This absolutely should be a recall enforced by Audi.

2020 Q3. Made an appointment to go in for the second fix. First one took 3 weeks because they did not have the parts. Apparently they replaced everything- Seals/ panel, etc. Still, again, 1 month later water pours down through the light panel with moderate rain. Not happy about moldy smell in car. Honestly wish I did not buy an Audi and I spent over 44K. My BMW friends say "told you so". I wont even start with the jerky acceleration from the stop position. First and last Audi.

My 2020 Q3 just started leaking AGAIN after it was fixed a year ago. The first time I brought it to the Audi dealer and they would not fix it on warranty. So I brought it to my Honda dealer who got them to pay for it! Now I only bring it into the Honda dealer if it needs anything to be fixed>. I am praying that the Audi dealership will pay for the repair!

I had this attended to about two years ago on my 2020 Q3 and I needed to take it back to the dealer again this week at about 40k miles. They said that the system is not water-tight and that both water and debris can get in (e.g., falling leaves or pollen in Spring). They said the debris clogs the drain hoses. They said it needs to be cleaned out every two years. So far, this has been covered under warranty, but I wonder what it will cost to fix when I'm out of warranty. Audi Hawthorne did the work in a day both times.

For anyone who had to pay out of pocket for these fixes or is nearing the end of their warranty: sunroofsettlement . com/audi

I have been dealing with this in my 2019 Q3 for the last 4 years, it started immediately when the car was brand new. Dealer always had trouble replicating with water tests which led to a lot of frustration and not being taken seriously. Many repair attempts that were bandaids, the most effective so far seems to have been replacing the drain tubes with larger ones, but it is a big job so the dealership/audi did not want to do that until all other options had been exhausted. They never were interested in buying back, determined to do whatever to fix it (once they took it seriously after years of visits...). They did also replace the interior carpet.

Parking the car on a slight nose-down angle was also a breakthrough in effective water-testing.

I just took the car back after ~6 weeks of work being done on it and also just got notification of that pending settlement in the mail.

I did ask about that each time. I was assured that they took that dome area down (while the entire headline was removed to replace the sunroof) and inspected it to confirm that the wiring in there is very simple and appeared undamaged. They said they checked the wiring for corrosion and didn't find anything that needed to be replaced. They did find mildew in the carpets though but on my vehicle the dome light area weathered the water OK!

Aloha, Hawaii here! Just baught 2019 Q3 from GMC here... thank god it is rainy season... day after I bought the car it poured rain.... into my car from the moonroof area as well. Took it back to GMC and they said that it was the pipes needing cleaned and it is normal depending on where you park your car..... well... rain came again and what do you know... leaking again... Luckily GMC and I have a 60 day warranty but I am wondering if I should return the car even though I love it or stick it out with them and make them fix it while also reporting it? how come Audi hasn't done a recall yet? clearly this is a problem with the cars... Also, I feel like I've seen an explosion of these cars on the island and im wondering if somehow audi sent a bunch to Hawaii in hopes for less rainy weather and repair cost thinking people would not notice? But, hello... our winters are very rainy here.

I had our 2020 Q3 in the dealer 5 times since we bought it for the leaky sunroof and flickering lights, usb ports all wet. They replaced the deflector once, and always said they could not duplicate the issue. Kept giving us the runaround about clogged drain wholes. Now the warranty is up and I have no recourse or even know what to do. I purchased some car wrap and am just going to cover over the entire roof for now. Audi should be ashamed of themselves for treating customers this way. This should be a recall and fixed for free. I will never buy from them again!!!!!!!!

I have a Q3 2021 and had the same problem, I found a technical review from audi, I printed and give To them , after three times they change the seal around the sunroof and adjusted tight to the glass and finally get fixed , I ask that if the problem continues out of warranty They will honored the problem, and they told me that they will fix because they already have a report of the problem

Just bought a 2020 Q3 and luckily it rained in sunny California so I know this issue is happening and can have it taken care of. I love my car I was so excited for my car and then this happened.
Does Audi charge for repairs on this since it’s not recalled yet? I’m prepared to get lemon law attorney if this does continue to happen like everyone is saying with little solution. Should be recalled smh

I have a 2021 Q3 that just started leaking through the moonroof and into the overhead lighting and then into the interior. I haven't contacted the dealership yet as I'm just researching the problem to be informed enough to wade through the pile of nonsense the dealer may try to pull to band-aid the issue instead of properly dealing with it.... I came across this forum and this National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) listing of an Audi Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) dated October 2023. Here is a link to that bulletin. I am a new member and cannot post the link. Here it is the address.

This may be a repeat post..1st one glitched and I can't see it on the thread so,...*

That cost you were quoted sounds like what it should cost to fix everything in the TSB - Technical Service Bulletin HOWEVER!!!! My dealership in Rochester, NY told me AUDI is covering FULL repair. Just had it looked at yesterday and the parts will several weeks to arrive. I scheduled for the end of September. I am 3 months out of Warranty as well.

Google the following case and you will see the settlement that came down in December of 2023. I was not part of the lawsuit but clearly AUDI is covering mine. I would venture its on your dealership.

Case: Gjonbalaj, et al V. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., et al. Case No. 2:19-cv-7165

The court came up with a chart of percentages that Audi should cover depending on how long of an initial warranty you had on the vehicle, the age of the vehicle and the amount of miles currently on the vehicle. I don't have it in front of me but from memory you'd fall between the 4-5 and 5-6 yr ownership window
4-5 yrs
100% coverage of costs from Audi if 6yr 72k warranty
85% coverage if 4yr/ 50k warranty
70% coverage if 3 yr/ 36k warranty

5-6 yrs
100% coverage of costs from Audi if 6yr 72k warranty
75% coverage if 4yr/ 50k warranty
65% coverage if 3 yr/ 36k warranty

These percentages change the more miles the vehicle has but at the worst, I think, its a 50/50 split (from memory)

Good luck!
