I was going to focus on just the interior instrument lighting, but now I feel like enumerating my petty grievances... they're all sort of in the interior since they are all trivial human factors issues. To bad the Audi doesn't come with an SDK so I can rewrite all the offensive bits of logic.
1. The headlight and MMI options don't give me one-press control of lighting levels. Why can't I turn the knob from "off, and I really mean off" to "DRLs" to "headlights" with a quick twist? The MMI let's me disable DRLs but not instantly by turning a knob. I don't need assistance to know when it is dark outside, particularly when the assistance is so confused.
2. Audi always makes it impossible to activate cabin air recirculation without air-conditioning. I'm really quite capable of deciding for myself whether I need to dehumidify the cabin and whether I am passing or following something stinky. Will the Q3 be as bad as my old A4, so that when it is really cold, the air-conditioning refuses to run and therefore recirculation is verboten? Only time will tell, as we're probably above freezing for the next 8 months.
3. Maybe I'm just fighting the Tao of automatic transmissions, but why can't I move from "S" to tiptronic without first going into "D"? "S" won't maintain enough engine braking in hilly country so the first thing I have to do is let "D" upshift to an even worse gear before I can intervene manually?
4. Audi decided to dim the instrument lighting to 'remind' me to switch on head lights. Because they've made the light sensor far too paranoid about when head lights are appropriate, the result is that the dash goes dark every time I enter a parking garage and would like to find that parking assist button, which is now disappearing into the shadows like a ninja thanks to the overhanging dash and black everything interior design. (How much more black could it be? That's right: none more black.)
5. Maybe I've missed something obvious, but is there a quick button sequence to blank the MMI screen when I'm tired of seeing it, without turning off the music that is playing? The DIS display is usually enough, and it seems like you ought to be able to make the main screen go dark and quickly reactivate if you actually use the center console MMI controls rather than the steering wheel controls...
