Should clear up one little thing though, all Q3 are built in Spain.......they are shipped from Barcelona Port, they NEVER set tyre tread in Germany before landing in your dealers ;)

The VIN code "W" for Germany is not the manufacturing plant but in Europe most VIN build codes indicate the manufacturers head office country rether than the actual location of the factory the vehicle was built in.

Sad to say it's not a German Audi factory, just a little old Seat Factory :D

Which happens to have some of the best figures for QC in the whole VW/Audi group.........so don't lose sleep over it.

Looks like a lovely car there vestergirl, still smells like new.....oh yeah!

Hmmmmm. So, boxbrownie, that was my original thought after watching a Q3 asssembly on YouTube. It was here that I was told that ALL Audis ship from Emden. Are you saying this is false?

Oh, and I should mention....I think what happens is they transport TO Emden, then to USA. I was told my vehicle was on ship 7-08, and there's no vessel to RI during that time frame. Two vessels enroute from Emden.

They all get shipped from Barcelona TO Emden, the local market Q3's are unloaded and any vehicles made in Germany are loaded and the ship steams on it's merry way to where ever it is required.

There is no "overland" deliveries from Spain to Germany for "final tweaking" much as it sounds nice, the car is made, loaded, delivered......bish, bash, bosh all done! ;)

Cost is King......

I believe these are your new "all-weather" - including fog - lights ... Note the matrix can be focused where you need from here - including signals and color (amber or white) too.

I think you will find the direction indicators are part of the DRL "light tube" at the top of the lamp assembly.

You are correct about the manufacturing in Martorell Spain, BUT the NAR cars at least are shipped by rail to Wolfsburg, Germany for FINAL assembly/inspection (hence the W - German VINs) and then trucked to Emden Germany for shipping to the NAR - at least mine was. I have a status trail that shows it...

...and as far as I know the US NHTSA/DOT insist on the first VIN digit be the country of final assembly or manufacture - not merely the company's headquarters or main office. My TT has a VIN that begins with TR - Hungary, where it was finally assembled, even though it's still an Audi with offices/headquarters in Germany...

Wait - are you sure those are 18s? They look exactly like what is pictured as the 19" wheel on the Prestige. Measure them! I'll bet they are 19s. ;)
They're 18s alright - I didn't realize Rick was from Canada - duh, my bad - THAT must be why their Prestige dos not have the same wheels we do as standard. The ones on my car ARE what come standard for the US Prestige cars. See the pretty Hainan Blue car in Vermont ...

So from Barcelona it went through the Channel to Germany, held there for a day or two before going back to England again ?? Sorry, I don't think THAT makes any sense at all.

This is silly, yes that is how they are shipped.

The Q3 is built in Spain, transferred by train for about 20 miles to Port (which is why the Martorell factory was built so close to Barcelona) then shipped to either Sheerness (or Grimsby and North Shields)) direct for the UK or if the ship is scheduled to pick up German built vehicles for the UK/USA it docks in Emden picks up the assignment then departs, the ships will then drop the UK bound stock and load USA bound vehicles (from Landrover/Jaguar mostly) and steam merrily onto your grand country.

Obviously the actual shipping routes do change according to demand and production output, but the auto industry do NOT waste money.

Makes more sense than US Q3's being built on exactly the same pline as EU versions but then trucked to Germany put back on a line to be "finished off" then trucked to Emden to be shipped to the USA on the same boat!

As you say...........nuf'said. :D

Vestergirl........I am never correct, my wife tells me that!

Here it is : http://www.clubvw.org.au/vwvin

You should be looking for the 11th digit in the row.
If it s 'R', then your car is made in SEAT's plant in Martorell Spain
which by the way is a rather modern VAG facility,
wholly built in the '90s under VW's guidance and has a tremendous build capacity of some 500k cars per year (not that 'little old plant')

Hey rnilabas - welcome to the forum. I must admit to being curious about your user name, but hey - it IS different than mine albeit quite small and almost imperceptible. Glad you found us and hope you have more stuff to contribute - you are CORRECT in your post - in standard VIN documentation the 11th digit is often used (particularly for north american manufacturers and also many EU ones, including VAG, BMW and Mercedes) for denoting the actual manufacturing plant, even if there are multiples within any one country - and thanks for the clarification...

ALSO :

ALL
- Please note that the above new member has emulated - NOT replaced - my user name. Be advised the slight but legitimate difference - a single lower cap 'i' in the middle between MY REAL initials and MY REAL last name - for which I have no fear to hide from. While I welcome this new user to the forum, I also wish strongly that ALL forum members now pay close attention to our differences... Cheers!
