I would appreciate advice from someone who has successfully programmed their garage door opener on the 2016 Q3. There were no instructions with my car so my broker and the dealer gave me a link to a video and the homelink website.

I have now found multiple versions with slight differences and am unclear which is correct.

1) does the car need to be in accessory mode on, or fully or shut off?
2) where does one point the garage door opener during the learning process and how far did you keep the remote from the car to get it to work?
3) how long did it take before the flashers did the 3 flashes?

Thanks

Also - my broker said there was something in the MMI settings and I see that there is on some audis - at least per the video on the usa audi website. But I don't find a homelink option in my MMI. I also don't see a subwoofer listed on the tone controls yet I have the bose 14 speaker system with subwoofer. there is only a base and treble no subwoofer.

I can only tell you what worked for me....without instructions.....

1.Turn on the ignition.
2. Hold down the Homelink button that you want to program until it begins to flash....then release it.
3. While holding your garage door opener about 3-6 inches from the Homelink and while observing the flashing Homelink light, press and hold the button on your garage door opener until the light on your Homelink button stops flashing.
4. Using your Homelink, open your garage door, park your car, go in the house for a cold beer and watch some college football....that's what I'm doing right now.....

You won't find anything about the Homelink in the MMI like you might on other Audi automobiles because unlike those other cars, your Homelink was installed at the port in San Diego.....not at the factory.

I too have the Bose system, which I really, really like, but you are correct, with the Bose you do NOT have a subwoofer adjustment on the MMI like you might with the standard system. But will notice there is an option DSP (Bose), or something like that, that gives you a sub-menu....

Thanks - that's the way it was programmed on my wife's new Subaru and hey, they even put instructions in the car that matched the actual process - imagine that. It appears that both my broker and his dealer partner were full of.....ah bad advice....pointing me to instructions for the systems that are integrated and it also appears that Audi doesn't have their act together by having on-line instructions or a hand-out in the car that matches the system installed. Wow....

Well that was a piece of cake - took all of 1 minute. Amazing how having the right instructions helps....thanks so much for passing along.

The Houston port did not include instructions for us either, but they were provided by the dealer when I asked for them. This POI added Homelink for the Q3 is relatively new....I'm confident Audi will find its groove by the time the memory seats are standard equipment on the Q3. >:D

BTW: I found the handout that is supposed to added to the car at the port to be useless. I just programmed ours like I have every loaner car we've had.

I would have been fine if they had just said that...but they steered me to videos and written instructions that that were for the integrated system, even noting the MMI integration. So I was a train headed down the wrong track. Oh well. Only cost was 30 minutes and some frustration. Delighted it's working now.

After struggling with the Audi POI instruction sheet for 30 minutes and getting nowhere I went to this thread and was able to program two remotes to the HomeLink in less than 10 minutes. Thanks DampDuffer. Oh, and step 4 is the most important step of all so don't skip it.

Hey All,

I just got a 2016 Q3 with the HomeLink system installed. I had a hard time pairing the HomeLink with my Chamberlain HD900D garage door opener (Purple learn button) and tried it numerous times for days and finally figured it out on Friday night so hopefully this will help someone else out there with the same issues. I called Chamberlain and HomeLink and spent hours on the phone with no luck. I even brought a brand new Chamberlain remote and batteries with no luck (Model 953EV) and couldn't even pair it with my opener. I called Chamberlain again and they suggested getting the Chamberlain "Universal" version (Model KLIK3U - this remote comes in several different colors but they are all the same KLIK3U-BL, KLIK3U-PK, etc.) and that worked the first time I tried it!

FYI - The instructions on the HomeLink website are not correct for the 2016 Q3!

Here are the exact steps I took:

Park your car outside of the garage but not too far away.

Follow the instructions to link the Chamberlain Universal Remote to your garage door opener.

- Slide down the front panel of the Chamberlain Universal Remote.
- Find the programming button and press it until the light turns on.
- Click the button you want to program twice and click on the other button that you're not programming to get out of the programming mode.
- Press the Purple learn button on your garage door opener and you should see a solid orange light come on right above it.
- Click the button you programmed on the Chamberlain Universal remote and you should see the light bulbs on the garage door opener blink twice with two clicks.
- Press the button on the Universal remote again and the garage door should close.

Programming the HomeLink button in the Q3:

- Press and hold the I and III button until the red light goes to a rapid flash and then immediately let go.
- Press the button you want to program (I, II, or III) and you should see a slow steady flash of the red light.
- Get your Universal remote and press the button you program about 3 inches away from the HomeLink buttons until you see a rapid flash from the red light (this will take about 15-30 seconds to accomplish)
- Now go to your garage door opener and press the Purple learn button once and you should see the orange light blink again.
- You'll have 30 seconds to go back to your car and press and hold the button you programmed for two seconds (you should see the light bulbs on the garage opener flash twice just like when you programmed the Universal Remote). You will then press and hold the same button for two seconds again a for a total of three times.
- The garage door should close after completing the above step the second or third time.

I hope this helps out at least one person out there because it was really frustrating not having the right directions and spending $300+ on an option that didn't work.

Welcome to the forum and THANKS for your contribution - hope you find more stuff here to enjoy your Q3.

Man, are Chamberlains a PITA with HomeLink though. I just accompanied an ABS to deliver a new A4 (with MMI HomeLink) and set up their opener. It was so painful, because the Chamberlain opener is SO fussy. Took us about 40 minutes to finally get it right Gimme my Overhead Door opener - SO much easier (and more secure to boot) ...

Ir worked for me - eventually

Hello,
I picked up our new Q3 yesterday and getting the homeland working was the only remains issue for me. I downloaded the instructions above and - after several attempts - I got this to work. My garage door opener has rolling codes so I had to go through that part. I also had to go through step #6 . My challenge was with step #3 . I did not hold down my homelink button for long enough. When I pressed homelink button #1 , it flashed rapidly (not slowly as the instructions suggest). I had to keep it pressed for maybe 15 seconds before it started flashing slowly. After that, things began to work.
All in all a frustrating exercise that would have taken 10 minutes with decent instructions. Instead, it took the best part of half a day.

But in the end you succeeded!!

As you can see by this forum thread....you are not alone in your frustration with the lack of instructions.

We're glad this forum was of some help to you. Congratulations on your new Q3, and welcome.
