I'm really stoked about getting into a new Audi Q3 tomorrow; I just closed the deal tonight. My first Audi was a '98.5 A4 1.8Tq that I bought with about 10k miles on it back in 1999. That car led me into the whole world of motorsports so I owe a lot to Audi enthusiasts in general and A4.org / audiworld.com specifically.

My first Audi:

I autocrossed and tracked that car for a few years before getting into another German marque that starts with a 'B'.

I did get back into the fold again last year when my son found a cool '90 Coupe Quattro at auction that I was able to pick up real cheap. It is still in 'project' mode however, so the Q3 will be my first Audi driving experience since over 10 years ago.

I bought a Prestige package Monsoon Gray Q3q with black interior. The dealer (Audi Rochester in Western NY) had two identical vehicles and I didn't bother with a side-by-side test drive; I really liked the way the one I bought drove, very similar to one I test drove last week. Nice comfort and stability, I know I'm going to love this vehicle (but I will miss my '05 BMW 325Ci with sport suspension).

Of course, now I'm already scoping out a Touring suspension lowering kit from Tire Rack . . .

That gen A4 is a true classic, had a buddy with one that didn't let it go till the wife decided a Q7 is required for their growing family. Fortunate for him Audi might come out with an RSQ7... fun days will return :D

Did you at any point consider any other SUV's in the segment or was the Q3 the only one?

Welcome aboard! Let's see some photos of the Q3? Did you consider the A3 since it's been compared to a re-hash of the A4 that started it all for you?

I test drove an X1 but didn't like it nearly as much as the Q3.

I finally took some pictures, here's a look:

I didn't spend any time looking at other Audis to be honest. Over the past few months my decision process was more about what type of car I wanted to get to replace my 10 year old BMW coupe (2005 325Ci). At first, I was looking for a 2011-13 BMW M3, with a normally-aspirated V8 and over 400 HP. These are coming down to around $40k with low mileage. I decided that was more than I wanted/needed for a daily driver and didn't want a $40k track car. That got me thinking about a little SUV. The Honda CRV looked like a candidate but I couldn't stomach getting into a CVT vehicle.

The Q3 is great and there aren't a million of them on the road so it has a little individuality about it, which I like.

These were sort of made for the big city, small car but big city appeal and I bet if you go somewhere like New York City, in a short drive you'll find a good number of them.

Another thing is demographics since the city is where jobs are, you're likely to see more newer cars in the city, people are willing to spend and are primed to spend, and that's where new cars come into the picture.

Actually there is another Q3 in my neighborhood and I see it when my wife and I go on our walks in the evening. Maybe it started me wanting one subliminally before I even knew it!
Haha, for us it was not subliminal at all, but instead a direct shot to the face!!

We were walking and saw Q3 parked outside a restaurant. It probably looked like we were about to steal the car as we lingered for about 10 minutes while giving it a thorough look. We then went into the restaurant and got a window seat to look at it for another hour while having dinner.

We were hoping the owner would eventually show up so we could quiz him or her, but as they did not we just gave it another 5 minute look on the way out.

Two week later we ordered our Q3.

Hi all, in my 1st Audi and have had my eye on Q3 for over a year now. I traded in a Toyota Prius 2006 in for a Q3, 2016. I absolutely love it. I'm in Dallas and there aren't that many Q3s on the road which i love. My car is Quattro Prestige S line black on black. Exactly what I wanted! Looking forward to learning more about it!
