Hello, everyone. I'm on my 3rd Prius (a 2011 - none of my Priuses have ever given me any problems). Gonna choose among Q3, BMW x1, or Volvo XC40 in a couple of months. I need more a more spacious vehicle. What octane gas does the 2019 Q3 manual recommend (I'm of the mind that you use the octane the owner's manual recommends.) Please excuse such a simple/newbie question. Thank you!

Recommends 92 but we have been running 87 since new and it runs perfectly
Yes, the engine adjusts, but your fuel economy is not as good, and you are losing power. This is a turbo engine with a very sophisticated computer controlled engine management system. Using lower octane will reduce the boost and efficiency of the engine.

The MPG will go down.

You will lose horsepower.

If the computer does not make the right adjustments all the time, you could damage the engine.

It is wiser to use the recommended octane fuel. That is what the engineers at Audi specified. That is what your car is tuned for.
