Hello! So I've only had my new Q3 for 4 days, and I'm scheduled today to drop her off for pinstriping. Realizing that many think of striping as "so yesterday," I am still a fan because it makes my car stand out from the rest. I hate having a car that looks like a bunch of others.

I'm just going to have two slim lines from front to back on each side, in varying shades of lavender/pink, with the Audi rings in purple toward the back.

My question is: is it okay to do this process to a car with paint that is so new? Does the factory paint process bake and seal it so it's not delicate once delivered? Please advise!!

Thank you.

Your paint is now about or at least 30 days old so I think you'll be fine - please take a few pics of your result - I for one would like to see it ;)

How are they going to do the rings - just curious ...

Hope you're not violating any copyright laws with those rings. Audi may come after you! wink wink.

it will give your car a distinctive differential vs all the other white Q3s. Nice.

Oh, you guys are the BEST!! I am happily surprised by your response - I thought for sure that a group full of men would poo poo the idea. Both of my teenagers have thoroughly poo pooed it!

I am an original, and I definitely like my car to be also. On my past FOUR vehicles, I've had the same detail guy do the same thing - a double swirly line on each side, with pink & purple hearts. Now, I'm pretty sure you guys WOULD have turned THAT one down! But for my first REALLY classy car, I decided to tone it down and try to make it less "fru-fru." I am so proud that my labors in repairing my credit have scored me an A tier approval by Audi Finance, that I want to draw Audi rings all over everything! (And yes cableguy, I did ponder the copyright significance...but I mean really, this is going to be ON an Audi, so...haha.)

I've been chatting this up with my detail guy since I ordered the car, and we both agreed that this one needs to be classy. He liked my design. When I first presented it to him, I wanted the rings to be silver. He does this all in paint, so he said if I wanted silver, he'd have to the rings in vinyl, because apparently silver detail paint doesn't hold up. Well, I didn't want to mix vinyl with paint, so I changed the rings to purple. Pink & purple are pretty much my thing. I'm REALLY particular about the colors he uses, and I usually beat this poor guy up with details about as badly as I beat up my Audi dealer. But he's still willing to do business with me, so hey!

So I went to Lowes yesterday and spent about 30 minutes perusing colors. I brought home the sample cards of the colors I want, and I just created another mock-up of what I want (attached).

I'm so happy that you all approve! I will definitely share with you when it's complete. The bummer is that I have to drive some piece of poo rental car for one day. Oh well.

Well - NOT to be a poopooper BUT - I really like your first version SO much better - this one is a bit extreme - not fru-fru, but just kinda "in your face." Your first one was more classy and respectful imho ...

btw. I'd like to see the color samples - is it a kinda pink on top with a purple on the bottom or otherway round? and the rings, pink or purple?

I also am glad that you're using paint and not vinyl - these days vinyl is fine, but the complexity of the rings to manually cut could look weird...

I have this and am trying to decide if I like it -

Actually, I like the unique pink and purple and SMALL Audi logo for vertergirl's car, but ONLY her car as it is, as I said, unique!

From my first car, a '57 Bel Air, I have always taken pride in keeping everything as stock as possible except for the occasional wheel change or badge removal. I recently reacquired my old '59 Impala convertible after it was totally rebuilt by my college roommate....it is totally stock to the naked eye, but there have been a few changes underneath.

Um, NO!

Let's see, counting each wheel, would that then total eight Audi logos on the outside of the car?
Whaaaa?? Hey, I thought we were all super fans here - what's wrong with a little flaunting the logo? I am so weird about imagery and symbolism...some car logos are so ugly to me, I would NEVER buy their car, no matter how nice the car. Dodge. Bleh. Chevy. Bleh. Just sayin'.

I think Roger's design is cool - I would never have thought of putting the rings down low like that...it's subtle.

By the way, I always buy white cars because it's like a blank canvas to me that I can put my mark on.

Hey thanks, I guess I'm just not as stylish - my logo is actually NOT an Audi logo at all, but a 3D italicized version - and btw, looks to me to be about the SAME size as your first design which is half the size of your second version. Different strokes I guess ... Eight just sounded like 8, not large or small :nerd:

Also where I put mine is about where Audi puts their "quattro" graphic ...

Don't worry Joe, I was just playing around with where to place the rings...not true to size!
Do you like the rings better on the door, or further back?
Phew, That was scary...
Working within the pin striping, I preferred it further back. But I also liked Rogers on the doors but that as a more stand alone option. Being really picky I liked the 1st iteration, would use thin maybe 1/16" stripes, maybe extend it forward a bit and make the rings very subtle... Again thats me...

The important thing is find something that you like!!!

Mr. Duffer - "Eight Audi logos" lets see.... Hum, if you take two 8's and turn them sideways and squeeze them together that would be one Audi logo. Now if we have eight logos that would be equal too... ooooh my brain, its way too early for this, I'm getting another cup of coffee (In my Audi logo'd cup of course) Oh no another logo!!!

Have a good day!!!

Awwww. Roger loves the Quattro graphic. :x
I am new to Quattro world, and can't wait to try it out in the SNOW!! So far, it's been amazing on sharp turns, which I understand is another perk of all wheel drive. Nice!

My favorite specialty item of yours is the "Quattro" under your grill (so to speak). Love that.

The ultimate test of the Quattro will be when I move to Delaware ultimately...my final destination! (Is there anyone here from Delaware?)

You'll be happy to know that the final decision is appromiately 1/4" stripes (top color very light pink, bottom color a little more bold) with Audi rings in purple (NOT Barney purple, more of a dark lavender) just to the rear of the back doors (on the right they will be on the fuel door!), then the lines continue to the back hatch door, tapering off just above the tail lights. He wanted to go all around the back, but I didn't like that idea.

I had to laugh when I pulled out my folder of drawings with my detail guy, and he immediately took the one with those huge rings on the door and discarded it! (He's known me a long time.) I thought of you guys though, because I know you were horrified to think that was to scale.

The painting is being done today and I will pick up after work - thankfully, it's not going to rain today, as that is always an issue. Yesterday after I dropped off (and requested that she be moved INSIDE), it hailed! Sheesh!

To be continued...
