Our local newspaper runs a new vehicle review on Sundays on the back of the Business section. Today's review is on the Q3 and it's an article by Larry Printz from Tribune News Service. The headline is "Don't be tricked by the Q3's good looks". Not the most flattering article...but then again even those of us who love the car know a few shortcomings we've identified...he just happens to highlight them a bit much. Ironically he puts down the sizing (targeting lack of room in the back seat and smaller cargo area) but hey buddy - did you happen to think that all cars have trade offs and this car is targeting buyers who want a smaller car and are willing to give up a bit in those areas? Want more room...get a Q5 or Q7. In any case if anyone want's to read the review it can be found on the web. Here's one link

Funny because I bought the Q3 because I wanted a compact hatchback and I felt the overall fit and finish of the Q3 was superior to the Tiguan. I have also found that the Q3's performance is more than adequate for me. Truth be told there are plenty of choices in this category but I have always preferred Teutonic engineering over the Japanese and Korean offerings, and after comparison shopping I found the Audi offering to hit all the right marks. Now if I could just figure out how to turn the Babe Magnet on through the MMI it would be perfect.

I wouldn't be holding my breath for THAT to be a simple coding in VAS or VCDS though ... I am CERTAIN you need at least one, maybe many, extra Control Modules installed for THAT !! >:D

After having looked at many potential cars and reading hundreds of reviews over 2 years prior to ordering the Q3, if there's one thing I learned, it's that there's no perfect car (at least not in my price range). I find the Q3's size to be perfect - just what I was after. We don't take people around in the back much and if we do it's around town. And we have a Subaru Outback if we want more room for a given trip in the car. Power - yes the Outback with a 6cyl is faster off the line than Q3. But I don't need that. Tried the Lexus NX. A bit too big overall for me (but yes certainly more roomy in the back) and I like the driving feel of the Q3 much better. I test drove my sister in law's BMW X1 and it's zippy but felt more like a car than an SUV and there was considerable wind noise even at 40-50MPH. I haven't driven the VW models he notes as being as good for less money, but I suspect there's going to be something missing (e.g. he did say regarding the Golf..."if you don't need four wheel drive"...well buddy I do need 4WD otherwise I could have just kept my Mini Cooper S). 'nough said.
