Removing rear headrest

Tried to remove rear headrest but couldn't figure out what the manual meant when they said and showed that an aux tool was used in the collar with the hole.

Anyone tried this?

Haven't tried it for myself but have you tried using the tool mentioned? If not, it's quite possible that very same tool is in a tool kit in the 'trunk'
Thanks, I'll check for the aux tool, whatever that is .
Try this for size - should be similar if not the same ...

btw, the simple tool 3371 is a set of guages - the one needed here is 2 mm thick - perhaps you can round up anything that is exactly 2 mm thick and strong/stiff enough for the task ...

ahh, here you go - a few posts down the thread - http://www.audiworld.com/forums/q5-...head-restraints-2014-q5-2854853/#post24495328

Ah yes, feeler gauges. Like what we used to use to set point gap and still the check spark plug gap with (although I prefer the wire type for plugs).

Thanks, All! Not knowing what the tool looked like and the fact that the collar had a small hole in it I was thinking the tool might be something that was pushed into the hole. Seems as if the manual could have shown this a bit more clearly.
That's something I have noticed to be commonplace with OEM manuals, they don't give clear, specific and direct guides, not as well as say a haynes manual.
Out of curiosity... why are you removing the headrest? I think I might need to remove mine as well, to fit some stuff in the truck while traveling. :D

I was trying to fold down flat the rear seat to make room for several snowboards, wouldn't all fit thru the center pass thru and the headrest hit the back of the front seat.

Check Out This Photo

I found this photo on Amazon. It was included with other photos of a dog barrier system. Installation of the barrier requires the user to remove the headrests in order to install bushings on the posts. Looks to me like they're using a small screwdriver to release the headrest. Hope this helps.

I have removed my rear headrests...and yes I used a small screw driver...similar to the one that comes with the eyeglasses kit, but it was a flat head, and not a philips head. It's rather simple, but depending on your technical abilities, you may need two people to do it, as you need to hold in the release button while you're also pressing the screwdriver into the little slit in the headrest to allow for the removal.
Did headrest removal let the seat backs go down more flatly??
Q3 head rest removal just push the release button on the right hand side of the head rest lift up then insert the pointed end of THE SPECIAL TOOL ie a pen knife and walla all done
