Here are some first pictures of the Volvo XC40 CUV which will be competing with the Audi Q3 when it is launched sometime in early 2018.

These photos show the XC40 prototype with a modified V40 body mounted on top. The eventual production model will not not look much like this consequently. It will likely use the same taillight design as the V90 Station Wagon.

The XC40 could get anything from a four-cylinder gas or diesel engine, or it could get a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

I think that's a Volvo signature just like the one piece grills for Audi.

I, for one, will certainly be taking a look at this model if it finally materializes on US soil when my Q3's lease is up. Obviously (by my signature) I have a soft spot for Volvo, but the current V40/V40 XC is a really cool looking and well-packaged vehicle.

My dad always would buy Volvos. I have been interested in them as a result and I think that the design has gotten way better recently.

They are a bit of a rarity on the street, and I find it hard to understand if they are upscale or not. I put them in the same group as Buick.

I'd say the interior of the S60 I owned was on par with the fit and finish of any Audi I've owned so far. I believe they have gone back and forth over the years as far as how far upmarket they want to be, but the current ethos seems to be right around the low-to mid-range Audi level.

They're just not standing out as much to me as the other brands in terms of distinctive designs.

Well, you must also consider it's kinda Swedish thang too ... (remember Saab?)
