Audi's Virtual Cockpit is to roll out in the all new 2015 Audi TT, but let's look even further into the future. This video shows off what an Audi cockpit could look like in the year 2025.

The Audi James 2025 Concept was debuted at the 2014 CeBIT consumer electronics show in Germany. It is just a design study right now, but it is a darn cool one.

There are three screens with various displays that emerge and hide as you need them. The steering wheel is like a transformer, and hand gestures control the menu screens. There is an auto pilot system because , let's face it, by 2025 we won't actually be driving our cars any more. And the most exciting thing is retractable cup holders!

It looks pretty futuristic but when you consider the amount of screens and infotainment systems in cars right now, it really is just around the corner.

right

id say that is pretty hard to say.

and i definitely do not think steering wheels will look like that.
I can see the multiple screens thing happening. The steering wheel does seem a little far fetched. I think one more part of this that they don't show is HUDs. Your windshield will have all this info for navigation and other information about the environment around you.

I also am not so sure about the "point at the screen to use menus" thing. How are you supposed to do that while you are driving?
This is just crazy. What's funny is that in this day and age it's practical but will cost a lot. Coming 5-10 years from now we should see it become available widely

well no i dont think the steering wheel is far fetched, pehaps having it split from a wheel into a toke is, but we already yokes in various uses, for one is to fly planes...

and F1 wheels are already very yokish...

I don't think that people were criticizing the wheel for the shape that it is (at any given moment), but rather because of its transforming ability. I'm sure it will play well when they feature an Audi in a Transformers movie 10 years from now.
unless they make steering efforts super low. as in full lock without taking your hand off the wheel.. i dont think steering wheels will ever be disconnected like that

safety issue.. looks like it would snag on something. and especially if the steering ratio is on crack. you will go right into the wall. the only reasons f1s can pull it off is because their steering ratios are insanely high

full lock is like a quarter turn

that is true but how often is that to happen? if that happens you must not be paying attention or have other things going on that shouldnt be going on
Maybe the split steering wheel would be for a track mode or performance mode in a higher end Audi. I for one would think that is a pretty cool feature. By that point I think that driver assistance tech will be pretty advanced which might stop you from over steering too.

That it would, even something that should and could be in the next Audi R8!
I would be pretty surprised if this ever made it to production
but we will see.. i am no fortune teller
I will be surprised if it makes it to production any time soon on anything other than the R8. I think a version of it could make it's way to the next generation R8
Well its not supposed to come out "soon". It is supposed to be the cockpit of 2025. You don't think that this is possible in 10-11 years? Sometimes these predictive concepts are way off by the time we get to the actual time period, but if you look at the way things are going with autonomous driving and touch screens, this seems like it could be in a high end car by 2025.
like all concepts

ill believe it when i see it
