Ran over something heavy dropped by a truck in front of me on the freeway and rsuhed to get off to see the damage. Ran into a metal curb in my rush. So, two questions: 1. I know they can do magic with rim repair and a new rim is $824! But is this too much and if not, what happens when you change tires on that rim? Will the repair hold? 2. I obviously need a new tire. I always hear you replace in pairs. The car has 11,500 miles on it. Do I need to replace a pair or am I OK with just one? Thanks! ~Bob

That wheel doesn't look too bad. You should be able to have it fixed, and if it's done correctly no one will be able to tell it was damaged.

I don't know where you live, and what tires you have on your car, but I have a new Q3 on the way, with the 19" Conti all seasons. I am going to swap them. If you have the same tires, they are about $270 each. I am hoping to get $450 for all 4 of mine. Buyer will have to pay shipping, if you are not local. -- I am in the Denver area.

Thanks for the reply, and when does your car arrive? I'm in California but if you were shipping soon would say I would be interested in 2. I have a Prestige so I think we have the same tires. ~Bob

I would think that would do it, but as tempting as this is, I think I will be all fixed, changed and realigned before that. I was concerned about replacing just one tire with Quattro. Some sites say replace two. Some say must be all 4. Some say if the tread wear is less than 3/32 one is OK. Mine are down 2/32 and my shop (not the dealer) feels one is just fine. Amazon ships free and is $254.21. ~Bob

Roger, Can you confirm replacing one tire if within 2/32 (or 3/32) will not be an issue for Quattro? I plan on placing the new tire on the rear. And doing this is a few hours and just wanting to be sure it will not create issues. Thanks. ~Bob PS, wheel was too difficult to fix so new wheel as well.

you should be just fine - that difference is way too small to worry quattro about - try to get the same tire though, tread and size may make a small (really) difference to driving, but not necessarily quattro ...

Superb. Thanks. Comforting to have you confirm that. Interesting that the alignment turned out to be off on the other side of the car than sustained the damage. It all whole again :) ~Bob
