But what does the button with a lock on it at the back of the center console do? It's right there above the rear 12v outlet..

I am guessing it locks something but what and why?

Locks the doors, there are not lock buttons on the rear door, so it is the only way for someone riding on the back to lock the car,

Don't feel bad. I had the same question when I got my Q3.
